The purpose of this project is to compile online resources for teachers to easily access frequently used and needed web-based resources.. In addition, the goal is to train teachers to create their own social bookmarking sights that will provide necessary resources directly in one spot for students to access. This creation and training will allow the teachers to customize bookmarking pages to create technology friendly teaching practices.
Description:
Bookmarking is both a valuable resource and an unorganized mess of “known necessary material”. Through the provided training, the teachers at the Pequea Valley School District will learn how to use, create and edit Symbaloo pages to create access helpful resources and use during instruction. The training will take place through working on a Pequea Valley District Wide Symbaloo page. Specifically for the MacBook teachers (1-to-1 MacBooks in grades 5-12), the created resource will provide a home page in which teachers can access important professional and teaching materials. It will also develop a comfort level to create personal pages to use for students during instruction. A series of Symbaloo tabs will be created to provide meaningful resources to teachers. In the general tab (home page), the page will provide access to the school website, current PA Core information, supervision resources, etc. Additionally every school will have a created tab that provides resources towards specific school based programs, age appropriate web activities, and school-licensed software. At the conclusion, the teachers will be guided to create their own resources through Symbaloo. They will work through transferring their bookmarks into icons in their Symbaloo page and publishing the pages so the students have access to the materials. The district is covering the membership cost for the teachers to make it possible for all teachers to create, manage and use their own page.
